  • Game Development Weekly Themes | Ages 9-12

    June 15 | Minecraft™: Mod Creation with Minecraft Mobs & AI

    In this creative camp, students will create their own custom mobs (Minecraft character models) and then use AI (artificial intelligence) programming to teach the mobs how to react in interesting situations. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced Minecraft gamer, this camp will present innovative challenges and opportunities to enhance your level of play.

    June 22 | Roblox Intro to 3D Game Development: Racing Games

    Do you love Roblox and want to learn how to make your own games? In this exciting camp for beginners, students will learn the Roblox Studio game creation engine and the Lua scripting language, and build exciting professional grade games, including Obbies, Racing games, and Dodgeball games. Students will master important coding concepts such as conditionals, loops, and functions, and learn a powerful scripting language used by pro developers around the world! Throughout the week campers use the Roblox Studio editor and Lua (Roblox programming language) to build their very own Adventure Map. Each day will present a new challenge and a key concept, such as conditionals and variables. The ultimate goal of this program is to ensure campers are having fun while learning new concepts to progress their learning and build confidence coding, so they may prepare for the next learning opportunity in the future, all while having fun!

    June 29 | The Science of Roller Coasters w/ Minecraft (4-Day Week)

    Join us as we create a digital roller coaster within Minecraft. Try your best to scare other teams by designing a twisting, rolling, looping, swooshing, heartstopping dropping coaster that will be sure to keep the line out the door! During this fun-filled program campers will learn about the inertia, speed, breaking power and centripetal force that makes roller coasters in the real world possible, and then put it into action in the digital world of Minecraft. This is a no holds barred program that will excite every camper whether Noob or Advanced Gamer!

    July 6 | Minecraft™ Survival Worlds

    Calling all beginners, intermediate or advanced Minecrafters. Campers learn how to build and engineer projects including: building to scale, mining materials, strategic planning and mapping, developing access points, preparing for the elements, and fireproofing structures. Campers will have the ability to learn about customizing maps and biomes in Minecraft. Improve skills in survival mode and learn how to craft items that will help you survive, sustain, and prosper! Survival worlds vary based upon your level of experience. Prepare for an exciting week as campers accomplish exciting results building their one-of-a-kind Minecraft features! Camper-created projects will be accessible post camp. No prior experience is required. We provide all technology on location!

    July 13 | Roblox 3D Game Development - Robux Tycoon

    In this popular camp students will design and code an awesome Advanced Obby and Tycoon game in Roblox, and then learn how to monetize them to make Robux at the Roblox marketplace! Students will learn both the basics of 3D game development and fundamental programming concepts using the Lua programming language. This camp is designed for beginner to intermediate students who are interested in programming, game design, and entrepreneurship.

    July 20 | Mod Creation: EnderDragon Rider

    Saddle up for the ride of your life with Mod Creation – EnderDragon Rider. This exciting camp teaches students how to create a rideable EnderDragon mod that students can play with friends and family. One of our most requested mods ever, Mod Creation – EnderDragon Rider will teach students how to code in Java using the Eclipse IDE, a professional tool used by engineers at software companies like Amazon, Google, and Facebook. Students will learn important coding concepts such as conditionals, loops, inheritance, methods, arrays, and more.

    July 27 | Roblox 3D Game Development: Battle Royale

    Fans of Fortnite, we need you! Instead of just playing your favorite battle royale games, why not design your own? In this exciting program campers will use a professional 3D game development software, like Lua, to build levels and assets and create action and battle sequences inspired by popular games like Fortnite. In this popular camp students will create a Fortnite-style Battle Royale game in Roblox! Students will learn both the basics of 3D game development and fundamental programming concepts using the Lua programming language. This camp is designed for beginner to intermediate students who are interested in both programming and game development.

    August 3 | Build Battles

    Fire your arrows! This survivor style camp opens up a world of possibilities to campers. Learn to use Redstone as we make defense machines, set traps, and attack other guilds to gain resources. Campers will team up into Guilds on Monday and work together to make a strategic game plan that will force other teams to think on their toes! Prepare for mini-battles and massive invasions as we dive headfirst into the world of Minecraft. Who will be the Last Steve Standing?!

    Unlock the code to the limitless possibilities of Roblox™, Java and Minecraft™. Featuring a new theme each week, campers’ imaginations will run wild as they learn to code new actions, build new blocks, and create new recipes to personalize their Minecraft™ world. Using logic and coding, campers will enjoy a week full of awesome Minecraft challenges and competitions. The coding and creative problem solving skills learned during Game Development Camp are sure to stick with campers long after camp ends. Ready to build the wildest roller coaster? The creepiest cave? The tallest tower? Join us as we explore the ever-changing world of Roblox and Minecraft!

    Under the supervision of experienced IDEAS Camp adult staff, campers have fun developing new skills, exploring new interests, building self-confidence, and growing in ways that benefit campers enjoy long after the summer is over. Each week, IDEAS Camp aims for a counselor to camper ratio of 8:1 in our Game Development Camp programs.

    IDEAS Camp offers extended care before and after the camp day for children who need to arrive early or stay late. Campers in the extended care program participate in a variety of well-supervised, age-appropriate activities ranging from sports, stories and puzzles to board games. After care campers enjoy a snack and juice provided by the camp.

    Extended Care Hours
    • FREE Morning Extended Care is available from 7:30 am to 9:00 am
    • FREE Afternoon Extended Care is available from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm
    • Extended Care is available weekly and daily and is always FREE

    Regular Camp Hours
    • Regular Drop-off is from 8:45 am to 9:05 am
    • Regular Pick-up is from 2:50 pm to 3:10 pm

    IDEAS Camp has an extremely strict late pickup policy and an associated penalty fee — please pick your camper up by 5:30 pm to avoid that penalty from being automatically charged.

  • Xpedition Camp Traditions

    IDEAS Solano Summer Camps has established many wonderful traditions. Every day in camp is an opportunity to create memories and overall fun. IDEAS Summer Camps treasure its daily routines and traditions. All of our programs center on the enjoyment of creative play and learning.
  • Xpedition and Innovation Morning Meeting

    The best way to start the day! Xpedition and Innovation start their days with a fun and energized morning meeting. From Camper and Counselor competitions to Whacky Wednesdays and Fabulous Fridays, there is a lot in store at Xpedition and Innovation Camp morning meeting. Xpedition and Innovation Campers also end their day with an all camp meeting to reflect on the current day and prepare for the next exciting camp day.

    Xpedition Leaders

    Every afternoon, counselors from each group nominate an Xpedition and Innovation Leader who will help the counselor meet and welcome new campers to their respective groups. Campers are chosen to be Xpedition and Innovation leaders based on their positive attitude and “we” over “me” qualities. Captains must wear their special Xpedition Leader Eye Black.

    Plinko for Icees

    Throughout the week, campers cheer on their peers as the Plinko puck drops, deciding the fate of whether or not the campers will receive an ice-cold ice pop. On really hot days, the Plinko Board has an amazing way to find the proper slot so everyone wins!

    Fabulous Friday Fun Day

    Shhhhh. It’s a surprise and each week is something new and exciting. From treasure hunts to magical mystery theater, campers work in teams to win the ultimate prize: The Viener Snitzel Snazzle Award. Sorry, you have to come to camp to experience it in real life.

    Counselor Competitions

    Creative and fun staff games where campers support their own program counselors and have the opportunity to see them participate in team-building and friendly competitions both physical and mental. Our Oreo Cookie on the forehead contest is a hit for all campers (and counselors).

    We like to take advantage of the hot sun as well as a helpless staff member–where campers throw and counselors get dunked in front of their peers to cheers all around

    The best time of the summer! Towards the end of each summer all families (siblings and friends included) are invited back to an evening of fun and entertainment. DJ tunes, face painting, moon bounces, carnival snacks and family games are enjoyed to celebrate the summer camp season coming to a close
